October 18, 2009. Durango, CO - The #23 Fort Lewis Women's soccer team came out strong in today's match against Nebraska-Kearney earlier this afternoon. The Skyhawks completely dominated the Lopers having possession for most of the game winning 4-0.
In the first half the Skyhawks outshot the Lopers 26-0 but were only able to put one of those shots in the back of the net after several close chances. In the 34th minute freshman Torrey Larson crossed the ball right in front of the net as junior Kortney Hull was able to get a toe on it to put the Skyhawks up 1-0. FLC continued to have chances but ended the half 1-0.
The Skyhawks came out in the second half with momentum and were able to score three more goals on the Lopers. Sophomore Hayley Hollenga recorded her 5th point in three games when she passed the ball to sophomore Michelle Felten who took a few touches and placed it past the keeper for a 2-0 lead in the 57th minute. Felten recorded her 2nd goal of the match just ten minutes later after freshman Elena Benavides's shot was deflected to Felten who was able to find the back of the net once again. Freshman Ashley Kniffen tallied a goal of her own in the 70th minute off an assist from Felten.
The Skyhawks outshot the Lopers 40-1 in the match as FLC goalkeeper Kelsie Woodson earned the Skyhawks their 12th shutout of the season only having to make one save.
Fort Lewis will be on the road next weekend taking on UCCS on Friday in Colorado Springs and Regis University on Sunday in Denver.
